New in town

New in town? Make friends in a new city

Moving to a new city alone is exciting for about a week. Then the weekends get quiet, colleagues go home to their own lives, and you realise there is nobody to call. If you have relocated for work or studies and want to make friends in a new city, small low-pressure plans are a good place to start.

GoMate shows plans from people nearby: coffee chats, walks, sports, food trails and weekend outings. You do not need a contact list to join, just request and wait for the host to approve. It is also a gentle way to learn your new neighbourhood, since people who live there often host plans to places they love.

How it works

  1. 1

Browse plans near your new home, or host a simple new-in-town coffee or walk.

  2. 2

Request to join. The host approves you, and you can introduce yourself in the group chat.

  3. 3

Meet up, learn the area, and join again to turn new faces into friends.

Stay safe. Meet in public, well-known places while you are still learning the area, and plan your ride home. Other members only see your approximate distance, never your exact location.

How do I meet people after moving to a new city?

Pick activities you already enjoy and do them with others. On GoMate you can join plans nearby, from coffee to sports, without knowing anyone. Going to the same kind of plan a few times helps familiar faces become friends.

Is it weird to host a plan when I am new?

Not at all. A plan like new in town, coffee on Saturday is honest and often welcomed. People who have lived there longer may join and share tips, and other newcomers will relate to it straight away.

Do I need to share my address?

No. GoMate never shows your exact location, only an approximate distance. You choose a public meeting place for each plan, and you do not need a phone number to sign up, just a Google account.
